The Brother HL-2270DW is the follow-up to the immensely popular HL-2170W. The 2170W was popular for its amazing value and print quality. The one big knock of the 2170W was the difficult wireless setup and for being only able to use one network connection at a time-- either Ethernet or WiFi. This is a nice, compact laser printer with good build quality.

Wireless was essential for me - I've been waiting quite a while for a wireless laser that had reliably great reviews. I unpacked the box, removed the plastic strips, scanned the quick start guide, plugged the printer in, and everything was great so far. I then downloaded the newest drivers from the Brother website (drivers on included CD's are usually 3-12 month old) for my Windows 7 x64 and Windows 7 x32 laptops; executing the driver programs walks you through setup. In the past for wireless products, I've found you usually have to first set them up on a wired (Ethernet or USB) connection, then change things over to wireless. I decided to test the technological development level and go straight to wireless setup, starting with the 64-bit machine. This consisted of inserting the tip of a pen [you could also use a paperclip, etc] into the wireless setup button hole, telling the printer to start looking for a...

Have no fear. Easiest wireless setup, ever.
I dumped my one year old HP 8000 wireless inkjet when it became obvious it was going to cost me two hundred dollars a year for even minimum use. You can read my review on that pig's product page for more details.

As with most users I have no expertise in wireless. Every time I add a device, it's plug-and-pray time. My network is run through an old Asus router which supports only WEP and WPA, not WPS. I don't know exactly what that means, other than that WPS apparently is a new standard which improves the installation process. My home network has slowly grown to inlude a W7 desktop, a Vista laptop, two other XP desktops (I never throw away old computers), one wireless adapter for my TV and bluray player, and one wireless printer.

I have to say that this Brother printer was the easiest installation experience I have ever had with any piece of wireless hardware. For once, a manufacturer went to obvious effort to make certain the manual was clear and coherent...

1. Great printer for a small biz
I've had this printer for a couple of months now and have been very pleased. The paper capacity is larger than my old printer (an OKI), it's quieter, warms up faster, and the paper path seems to be better as well. On top of all that, I was worried about running out of toner quickly but the utility shows the toner is still over 80%. I highly recommend this one, on Windows 7 or 8 seems to work fine.

2. Terrific print quality, bypass tray is a huge pain
Love the quality of the printing, and the speed is amazing. No warm up time. But the bypass tray is a huge problem. I can't just put a piece of paper in the tray, it has to be inserted in just the right place to be grabbed. Most of the time I waste multiple sheets of paper as it gets grabbed from the drawer first as the placement in the tray was not recognized. I haven't figured out how to fix this yet. It helps (but still not foolproof) to have a stack of paper in the tray, not just a single sheet, but this is a silly workaround. Sometimes I just want to print a quick sheet of labels, I don't want to have to stack paper underneath it. I think the plastic parts are just a little rickety compared to my sturdy old Ricoh. Anybody got a solution for the bypass problem? Maybe it's just my machine in particular?

Not Wireless at All
This is a great printer - except one issue. We recieved it, installed it, and began our first print job over ethernet immediately. Fast, relatively quiet, excellent print and very good photo copy. Sat down this evening to install the wireless, followed the directions, hooked it into a USB to configure the wireless - it couldn't find the wireless settings. Called Samsung, very helpful guy. Took him about 30 seconds to figure out that the CLP-775ND/XAA is not a wireless printer. Apparently it needs a "W" in the suffix to be wireless (yes I know that the W alone won't do it and that it actually needs the wireless card, but that is the short answer in any event). No way to contact Amazon directly to tell them of this error, but I bet they figure it out fairly quickly after a bunch of customers waste their time setting up the printer and trying to install non-existent wireless. Bummer.

1. Excellent 1st Time Buyer Color Laser Printer; Great for the Price, However, Bad Paper Feeder for Labels, etc.
I have only ever owned color ink jet printers such as Epson and Brother, but I must say, for Laser printing, HP takes the cake. I do own the HP LaserJet 4 Plus (Monochrome B/W) and it has worked great for me for 6 years plus. This new machine is definitely a major improvement.

First off, it is very easy to set up and you can choose whether to have it run off of a USB port, or you can network it through your system. I personally have it connected to my Wireless D-Link router and I have 2 Windows PCs, 1 Toshiba wireless Laptop, and 2 Wireless Macs networked and ALL of them are able to pick up the HP with the provided HP software disk and all are able to print from it.

It also prints so fast and is remarkably quiet. It is a monster of a machine in size (be prepared to have a nice big space for it, both in heighth, width and length - it is (WxLxH) 18.00" x 16.00" x 15.00" but remember, you need room to feed the front of it, and you need room for the wires in...

2. Great upgrade from the 2600n
I had been looking around for a color laser printer to replace my trusty old Laserjet IV. I've gotten really used to duplexing at work, and really wanted to have that option on any new printer I purchased.

There's plenty of inexpensive color laser printers out there with an option for a duplexer, but often the optional duplex unit is anywhere from 75-100% of the price of the printer itself!

The 2605dn is a nice upgrade from the 2600n, take a look at the feature comparison:

Great low-cost color laser printer
I previously had a MagicColor 2400W and used it for about a year - it had great color and resolution, but the color cartridges came will little toner and my attempt to use a third party refill (to keep the cost down) basically destroyed it by dispersing ink everywhere in the unit.

As a replacement, I looked again and saw good reviews for the HP 2600 series, including the 4000 copy initial toner load and improved toner empty management software. I've been particularly impressed with the 2605's duplex printing that uses a neat trick that kept the cost down. Other good impressions are: it's significantly quieter than the MagicColor with its one-pass 4 color printing (no faster, but quiet); it only recalibrates when necessary, and very quietly at that; absolutely no jams with a variety of media; very good color resolution, but I wouldn't use it for a photo printer; standby mode is very low power so I leave it on all the time, giving a relatively fast printout whenever I'm...

The HP Color LaserJet 3600n is a good buy for the money. You get laser color, speed (17 ppm), networking. 2 trays all in one machine.

If you want great color, don't buy a laser machine, get an inkjet instead. But if you want good color documents printed in a speedy manner for less cost than an inkjet, buy this printer.

One of the real benefits of this printer is that it comes with 4 FULL toner cartridges which would normally cost over $500 for the cartidges alone! The toner cartridges are all exposed when you open the cover, making installation very simple. Jams are extremely easy to remove when you have such wide access.

By buying this printer, you are getting a lot of bang for your buck!

2. Get Rid of your InkJet
Pros:
- Prints fast from sleep in both Black & White and Color.
- Great print quality for a laser printer
- Cheap price per page (According to the Toms Hardware artical: "Color Laser Printers: Fast and Affordable!")
- Printing price-per-page: 1 cent B&W, 8 cents Color
- Networked enabled versions (3600n & 3600dn) have an extensive web based configuration menu. (I'm not sure if you can access it via the USB connection)

Cons:
- Packaged drivers do not work under Windows XP x64

Other Thoughts:
-To get the proper drivers installed into Windows XP x64 you need to download them from hp's webiste. If you are installing it over a network you need to add the printer via Windows Control Panel and specify "local printer attached to this computer" then create a new "Standard TCP/IP port" and then specify the printers IP addy.
- I'm glad to be free from expensive ink cartridges. If i need photo quality prints I'll send my pics to Costco...

Think Twice About Host Based Printers
I bought this HP3600n printer as an upgrade for my worn-out HP2500. I immediately experienced a drastic drop in printing speed. The print language is HP JetReady 4.2, which is a host-based language. HP seems to have removed the processing power to reduce costs on these low-end printers and placed the burden on the users computer. I am running OSX 10.4.11 on a G4 PPC tower and printing to this printer is unacceptable. It takes 1 hours to print a 24-page document from InDesign and 9 minutes to print a 1 page Illustrator doc that contains only text. Also you surrender the computer while this processing takes place. It is like not having a print spooler function.

You also have to put up with the very light and contrasty color from the new toners. This can be tweaked out by cranking every color control from the panel ( plus two for all colors and all shades.) I suspect that the amount of toner used per page will correspondingly go up resulting in high consumable costs...

1. Pay Attention to the Dimensions and Weight
This is my first color laser printer. I'm accustomed to black/white laser jets (HP, Dell, Konica Minolta). I was a little astonished by the size and weight of this machine. The picture is not a good perception of the scale/size of the printer. The printer weighs nearly 50lbs and the box is very, very large.

The size and weight aside, this printer is amazing for the price. My only complaint is that when I try to print photo quality (2400dpi), it says it needs more memory. But for a sub-$200 printer, I think this printer is perfect for your standard documents and prints. The colors look beautiful and there is no streaking.

2. Brother HL3045CN
Excellent print quality and speed. Whereas I used to have to wait a good amount of time for my Epson inkjet to startup and fight with it to "catch" the paper, this printer gives me none of those headaches.

That said, it did give me a headache when linking it to my MacBook Pro (10.7.x). I followed the provided directions to the letter when hooking the printer up via USB, and installing the provided installation software. I was unsuccessful. I went to Brother's website, registered the printer, uploaded both the current driver information and firmware update, and still no success. I then checked for "Software Updates" from Apple itself, and found that there was one for Brother.

In other words, install the drivers and firmware update(s) from Brother's website and then install the corresponding software updates provided via Apple. It will save you the headache I acquired.

Great Machine
I am pleased with the way the printer works. It is smooth running and has all you need for home/small business and it is fast.
This printer has a small footprint whick is great for small places. I replaced my old Oki C5200 and it took up less then half the space. I wished Brother made ,I am sure they could, bigger volume of toner cart's. I would recommend this printer to the small volume user.

1. Great printer
I bought several Epson ink jet printers over the last few years. 80% of the time I was just printing black text, hardly any pictures. Clogged nozzles and high costs for the ink made me move to a LaserJet printer. All was well and then the wife said I could upgrade and go to a color printer.

I bought the printer, connected to my 24" iMac directly by USB. I did not install the driver included on the CD but I was still able to add it as a printer. My test print worked fine.

I them moved the printer to my Time Capsule and set it up there. Again, my test print worked fine. Now my ball and chain can also print to the printer from her MacBook.

I will never go back to an ink jet printer. The print quality is good.

My one issue with this printer is that I have not been able to set up some kind of draft setting so that I could save ink. If I do, I will update the review.

2. decent printer
Everything about the printer is good, except the ink cartridges are expensive and it doesn't come with full cartridges. After about 600 copies the machine says I need to purchase another black cartridge. A full cartridge should print 3x that amount.

Decent Color Laserjet Printer; Bad HP Customer Service
I bought this printer about a year ago upon the recommendation of my local IT support company; they also installed it as a stand alone printer with my Toshiba laptop which has Windows XP. After having dealt with inkjet printers and their cartridges I wanted something more robust and simple to use, hence color laserjet printer

Positive points :

- it works without any problems and has not jammed yet

- Black and white print quality is excellent, color is okay, but for photos it's
not anywhere near as good as a good inkjet printer, such as Canon, will do

- Speed is okay, but not particularly fast

Negative points :

- Toner consumption is relatively high, and toners cartridges are very expensive

- HP Customer Service consists of trying to sell you additional items; they can't
even answer a question about their HP photo paper availability, and they don't
have an organized listing of all HP paper...

This printer shipped very fast. I had it with in a couple of days. Of course Michigan is not very far from Ohio. Please be aware that the picture they have listed is not 100% the printer that you will receive. What you will receive is the Ricoh 3100dn but not in its entirety like pictured. It is missing the 8.5"x14" paper tray that you see as the 2nd tray in the picture. Which is part of the reason that I purchased this one. I am sure that once inquire about this it will be taking care of. I would say this printer is the top dawg when it comes to desktop printers capable of sublimation printing.

2. Quality Sublimation Printer

No Secondary Tray
I bought this because the picture showed two feeder trays, and I wanted one for letter and another for envelopes. The second tray is apparently an option that may be bought separately. Had some problems getting the item to work as a LAN printer also.
