1. HP Color LaserJet 3550 Printer
I looked at all of the laser printers and inkjet. Every article says there is nothing like an inkjet. I can tell you for a fact that they are wrong!! There is no comparison at all when printed on plain paper; this HP LaserJet 3550 is the best!! When printed on gloss paper a great inkjet is better but not by much at all. Meaning you will not need an inkjet unless you already have one. I read all the articles on all brands (OKI, Samsung, HP, Lexmark, Brother, Ricoh, Minolta, Panasonic, etc...) (trust me I spent 2+ weeks reading) of laser printers. I sent (and paid) for samples only to find out that the HP LaserJet printers (3500, 3550, 3700) produce the best output (B&W, color, and photo) and they only have 600*600 res., which goes to show you resolution means nothing (at least with HP)!!

This HP 3550 printer is fast and produced the best photos I have seen on any laser printer (no banding also!). Power consumption is low, it is Quiet for a laser, and of course it is...

2. A whole lot of printer
I have the HP Color Laserjet 3550. Straight off the bat let me state that this printer is big. When I say big, I mean big. When it was delivered I was astonished at the size of the box and after unpacking it I spend a few minutes taking in its size. I then realized that it was taller than I anticipated, even though the dimensions quoted in my prepurchase research were accurate. Seeing is believing. Despite the size, it is well designed and infact, beautifully made.

Setup of the printer and toners was extremely easy, and the installation of drivers was okay. After following the instructions given in the setup guide, the installation process stopped on my PC for no apparent reason. I eventually restarted the pc with the setup cd in the machine AND the printer connected to the pc and everything sorted itself out perfectly.

When I did my first print (the printer's demo page) and saw the quality on plain copy paper, I knew that I had made the right decision on...

HP Laserjet 3550 a GREAT color laser printer
I was pleasantly surprised with this color laserjet. I previously had the HP 4550, which was (is) the most disappointing color laser printers (at 4ppm and outrageously expensive ink drum). I was a little skeptical about the capabilities of the 3550, but with a little research online and testing at local computer stores, I decided to go with the 3500 (actually, I got the 3550n with networking). It did not come with a network card (like the 4550), but it did come with a USB network print server (which I like better anyway).

It boasts 16ppm for color (which is faster than my old one), but only 16ppm for b&w text (which is slow compared to my HPLJ 2420 at 25ppm). Others boast a fast 25ppm color and b&w text (Lexmark C762) but for twice the price. The comparable Lexmark unit is the C510, which prints 30ppm text, but a slow 8ppm color. This is why I went for the HP.

I will have to say that my inkjet printers (HP and Epson) can print better photo-quality than this...

1. nice but high toner costs
This is a grand price for a color laser printer and all but the price of the toner cartridges makes this less of a deal when it comes time to refill. I found them anywhere from $136 - $190. If you aren't a high use user, your cartridges will last for a year or two at a time but to replace the four colors is $600-800.

2. Good Value After Rebate
Very good quality and value for the price after rebate. Only downsides are"

1. Size-it is very large and you will want to hook it to a wireless and stash it somewhere out of the way.

2. I "wakes itself up" every so often when not being used and runs for a 5 seconds. This is very loud and annoying.

3. Since Lexmark is very big on copyprotecting its cartridges and bring lawsuits against anyone who trys to make generics for them, you will not be able to find affordable replacements, so ebay or toss it when the cartridges run out.

Warning: Do not buy!
This printer is a piece of junk. I bought it specifically to print out our wedding invitations. When I went to print out our test invites, they were coming up with a faint gray background and gray streaks across the paper. It was like someone had slightly rolled over the paper with rolling pin with ink on it. I called technical support about the problem. They had me change several different settings on the printer, none of which solved the problem. They then asked me to mail them print samples to Lexington, KY. Here I was needing to print my wedding invitations, and they were having me mail print samples back and forth. I mailed them the samples and they call me back the next week to tell me that the technician has determined that the printer is defective. Fine, I say. When can I get a replacement? They told me that they won't replace the printer with the same model, because this model has too many defects. But I can upgrade to another model for $200 more or I can request...

1. OKI C610DN review
I purchased this OKI C610dn after having my previous OKI that was OVER 10 years old and had NEVER seen a service shop one single time. My previous OKI again, never had one issue. After going through over 8 HP printer products I really wanted another OKI so I found this C610 on sale at a great deal of $699. I purchased it and it has been about a year now and again, never an issue. This new C610 is blazing fast compared to my old OKI which by the way is still running fine. The C610 is at least twice as fast, little more noisy than my older OKI but quality is outstanding and I do NOT think I ever want to purchase anything but OKI. I just wish everywhere carried them and they were a bigger company that really fights for their printing industry cause i firmly believe they are by far the best and strongest built on the market and by far the most reliable.

2. Doesn't Last much beyond the warranty
Quality of printing seemed to be good out of the box. Hooking up on the network wasn't to difficult, works better with a assigned ip address.
Had it on a dedicated line with protection but after a couple of months out of warranty it quite working. Yhink its the power supply.
When you turn it on and off just a clicking sound cables all good tried different power.
No help from the online and Okidata email, after it took 3 days to my eMail.
Said try a new cable, plug into a different outlet. Did all that before contacting.
So I am looking for another Brand of printer.
I just hate these throw away ones that cost $750 as this one did.

Any ideas on a more reliable one?

1. Curls Paper
Print looks good. Seems to be better than average at cost. BUT: It curls paper like nothing I've seen before. I've used laser printers since 1995, and have used (owned) 5 different color lasers, two others being xerox phasers that handled paper very well. All paper weights come out curled... but 20lb & 24lb can be flattened fairly easily. But just ran 40 copies of cardstock. Feeds through quite nicely, no hang ups. BUT the paper comes out literally (not exaggerating) in the shape of a "C". So much so, that the next page pushes the previous page off the tray like a bulldozer. I would can not recommend this printer because of this one issue.

2. Setup Not Great; Printing Great
I like this printer. It is replacing a Laser Jet 2600n that is showing its 7 or 8 year age. The printing is great. The price was good ( caveat - I haven't had it long enough to buy toner which can be pricey ). However, ...

The setup process is awkward and not helped by the fact that the only documentation you get in the box is a large ( 19 inch x 25 inch ), multilingual ( 15 EU language ) two sided sheet of paper with diagrams that can be difficult to interpret. There simply isn't enough text there to clarify what some of the diagrams are trying to tell me. Since I make my living supporting complex software on UNIX and Windows I have lots of experience with interpreting software manuals. Diagrams and hardware however are not my strong point. There are 12 short sentences to give you an idea of what these diagrams are intended to represent. After a lot of comparing diagram to printer, trying to figure out how to open some of the component or get at some of the ports,...

1. Great glossy printouts - but - throwaway color laser?
One motivation for writing this review is some important misinformation in a previous review. At any rate, I could not decide between the OKI 5200 and the HP 2600. At my local office supply store, they sat side-by-side, and thanks to two different $100 rebate offers (one instant, one mail-in) for the OKI, they were the exact same price. My decades-long favorable experiences with everything HP I had purchased (including a mono laser printer) had me strongly leaning toward the HP. The sample test prints made by each showed them very close in quality, with the HP doing a slightly better job at printing graphics. A big difference is that the OKI's prints are high gloss. Even the lettering is gloss, when printing no graphics, on plain white paper. So imagine every letter you print with the OKI having glossy black type regardless of what paper you use. 2. Good Printer for a decent price. Excellent Support
I purchased this printer after reading a lot of reviews of other printers and this model's predecesor, the C5150. After rebate, I purchased it from Staples for $400...and they delivered it for free.

I previously owned a Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2400 W Color Laser that I returned. A lesson I learned from that printer is that some color lasers are power hogs. My home office is in an older house (120+ yrs old) with typical home-sized circuitry. The K-M caused the lights to flicker when on. The power consumption on this one is very reasonable.

As previously noted, this printer is big. It is 2 ft deep without the straight path outlet tray open. The top opens like a car hood to access the consumables. While this makes it easy to get to them, you can't put this printer anywhere you don't have clearance over it. Measure carefully before you buy. It is also heavy...almost 60 lbs.

Incredible Color Quality + Reliability = Great Deal!
As an IT Manager, I had heard good things about OKI color printers and purchased my first one almost two years ago -- it now has almost 30,000 copies on it and (other than consumables) has required no service attention.

Pluses: Color and image quality ROCKS! Comes with network card already installed. Rarely jams, and easy to clear jams if the occur. Easily replacable and widely available toner and drums (and, if you check out a well-known online auction site, aftermarket drum reset kits are available which will save you about $300 when the printer hits 15,000 copies).

Only one negative: Network install/use can be a bit quirky (print jobs sometimes jam in printer que for no reason, but the network admin. can easily reset without rebooting).

Bottom line: I'm now using only OKI 5150/5200n's (8 total) in our three store locations. For a mid-priced color laser, the 5200n deserves a serious look.

1. Great network-capable color laser printer with duplex
I purchased this printer earlier this week to replace an HP 2600n that had failed. The software installed without issues on four computers, which run either Windows Vista or Windows XP operating systems. No problem printing on any (or all) of the computers. Printer prints both color and B&W very quickly. Duplex printing option works great. Prints are high quality.
The only issues to date include:
1. Installation software offered either default or custom installation options. Even though I chose the custom option, the software gave me no choices for installation, and everything was installed on all four computers. I had to call customer support to then uninstall unnecessary software on three of the computers.
2. HP defaults this printer to the setting: Stop at out. This setting stops the printer from printing when a print cartridge has reached the end of its estimated life. I've found that a print cartridge has several hundred usable pages of life left when this setting...

2. Never go back to Inkjet!
What a fantastic printer! After spending a small fortune over the past 6 years with two top-of-the-line Epson Photostylus inkjet printers, I'd had enough when my R1800 started chewing through 50% of the 6 ink cartridges it has just trying to get the nozzles cleaned....all at $14/cartridge. So I did a little research and found the CP2025dn brand-new from HP. What a joy!

I just hung it off the home router with its network interface and leave it on 24 hours a day. It goes into sleep mode (from which it only draws a couple of watts of power) yet it immediately wakes up begins printing within about 20 seconds. AND it doesn't clink and clang and make all kinds of fuss: it just prints! This is in what I would call an medium intensity home office or very intense personal use. Four people are using it, 3 from windows, 1 mac and everyone loves it. Using the HP glossy laserjet photopaper it even produces decent pics - not near what an R1800 would do BUT at a fraction of the...

Better that printing in kinkos
After spending a small fortune printing brochures in Kinko's, I got this printer. It is great. Same quality as Kinko's. Now I spend a fortune in toners, but on a FULL color page I estimate a 20% savings in this printer over kinkos, but if you pages do not have a color background, the savings are even bigger since Kinko's charges per page does not matter the amount of toner they use.

I had printed enough documents to get a better estimate, My costs are ~60% to 80% lower than printing at Kinkos. Paper included.
If printing from adobe products, use the Universal PS drivers to get the colors as you see it in a calibrated monitor. The PCL5 drivers for some reason do not give me the right colors.

I did a lot of research on color laser printers and chose the Okidata because it said it did heavy cardstock, which I print on a lot. I have been very pleased w/the printer. Its been 2 months and I just replaced the black cartridge, the colors are still the starter cartridges. I've printed a lot of color flyers and letterhead for my business and it prints great! The only thing I find frustrating is if I change media (which I go from envelopes to greeting cards to letter and legal size paper) I have to manually hit the online button when the printer default media size doesn't match the file media size for it to print from the Manual Feed Tray. My HP laser automatically prints from the MF tray if the types don't match. It may just be operator error, but I have to change the default print settings in the control panel everytime I work with different media so I can print several files and walk away and know I don't have to sit and hit the online button for each file. Great Color Printer For The Price
I bought this printer to replace my older Minolta color laser printer for several reasons, the most important being that the Okidata will do a maximum of 12 color ppm vs. the Minolta's 4 color ppm. You just can't get better than this for the price.

The color photos are pretty good but I have a good high quality color injet photo printer. For everything else I use this one now. Color printing is cheaper than inkjet printers over the long run. It has built-in networking and setup over my wifi was snap!

I'm pretty happy with it but there are just a few things about it that I do not like. They are:

1. You have to set the multi-purpose manually. Most printers will print whatever is on the MP tray first but this one doesn't. Of course, it could be my mistake.

2. The MP tray is kind of tricky to pull out and use. For one thing, there is a large lever that one would assume is the MP tray but is really the release lever for the top of the printer to...
